AMD has finally unleashed its brand new headliner, the R9 290X - or
Hawaii, as it's more memorably called. As with the other new cards, this
will be an extra performance 'X'-rated version, with a standard non-X
chip.
The first glance at the 290X shows it to be something of a monster on paper, packing a rather substantial 6.2 billion transistors. The Radeon 7970, by comparison, used just 4.31 billion, and even the truly heavyweight nVidia Titan offers only slightly more, at 7.1 billion.
